What to watch for in the construction materials sector
In Kazakhstan, the products that may be subject to assessment in terms of fire safety may include mineral wool, stone wool, thermal and sound insulation materials, PVC and plastic-based construction materials, wall, ceiling and roofing materials, fire dampers, cable ducts, fire doors and cables.
The fact that a product falls into one of these groups does not by itself determine the type of document. Under the legislation, conformity assessment in terms of fire safety may be mandatory for some products and voluntary for others, depending on the relevant legislation and demand.
In Ukraine, depending on the product’s characteristics, its flammability, fire resistance, flame spread, smoke generation and behaviour under heat may be assessed. For some product groups, longer-term certification may require an assessment of production conditions or an audit of the production facility.
In Saudi Arabia and Algeria, too, construction and building products are among the product groups for which the relevant technical regulations must be checked product by product.
